Lunar Assault Werewolf Oracle — Full Guide (0.5.4)
Source: maxroll.gg/poe2/build-guides/lunar-assault-werewolf-oracle-build-guide Version: Path of Exile 2 — Return of the Ancients 0.5.4 Class: Druid → Oracle | Main skills: Lunar Assault Author: Zen_M (reviewed by Crouching_Tuna, Tenkiei)
Build Overview
This is a melee Druid built around Werewolf form + freeze control. The Oracle ascendancy grants exclusive access to hidden passive tree nodes (Entwined Realities lets you allocate nodes around keystones without pathing to them), making your tree routing extremely flexible.
The core loop is crystal clear:
- Pounce in to close the gap and apply Predator's Mark (marked targets summon up to 7 wolves on death);
- Lunar Assault for main clear and freeze buildup (it has innate "greatly increased freeze buildup");
- Once the target's freeze buildup hits 70%+, follow with Arctic Howl, the empowered roar;
- Shred for damage while the target is frozen + stacking Ice Fragments;
- Cross Slash to detonate the ice shards and gain a Power Charge, then Rend for 50% extra damage as Lightning.
The build stacks burst damage through layered buffs — Lunar Blessing, Savage Fury, Arctic Howl, Rend — and uses Herald of Ice to shatter frozen enemies on kill for chain-reaction screen clears.
Identity: a rhythmic "buff management + freeze detonation" melee archetype — not a mindless left-click build.
Skills Breakdown
Leveling (Act 1)
| Level range | Skill | Role |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | Entangle | Ranged slow while waiting for Werewolf form |
| 3+ | Shred | Main single-target; triggers Ice Fragments against frozen targets |
| Act 2+ | Lunar Assault | Becomes your main clear once unlocked |
| Act 2+ | Pounce | Mobility + Predator's Mark + wolf summons |
While leveling, prioritize form-damage nodes like "Spirit of the Bear" and "Molten Claw", plus the Tribal Fury keystone (adds splash to your attacks — a massive clear upgrade).
Mapping
- Main clear: Lunar Assault (your primary button) — wide coverage + freeze buildup
- Engage: Pounce into the pack, apply Predator's Mark
- Detonation: Herald of Ice — killing frozen enemies auto-shatters and spreads
- Frost Bomb applies Cold Exposure (resistance reduction) to tanky mobs
Bossing
- Opener: Pounce → Lunar Blessing → Savage Fury (activate on your weapon swap to extend the duration)
- Main damage: Shred to 4 stacks → Cross Slash for damage + a Power Charge → Rend for the +50% extra Lightning
- Freeze management: Lunar Assault to 70% buildup → Arctic Howl
Auras / Buffs / Spirit Skills
| Skill | Role |
|---|---|
| Lunar Blessing | Attacks call down moonlight; consumes Rage to extend duration (pair with Rage III) |
| Savage Fury | ~30% more damage, stacked up by attacking |
| Overwhelming Presence | Makes freezes easier to trigger |
| Berserk | Amplifies Rage benefits (drains 0.1% life per Rage per second) |
| Barkskin | Grants armour once your ES is depleted |
| Charge Regulation | Charge empowerment (Endurance = defense / Frenzy = skill speed / Power = crit) |
| Combat Frenzy | Freezes generate Frenzy Charges |
| Blazing Critical | Adds 15% fire damage to Pounce/Rend |
| Ice Bite II / Bhatair's Vengeance | Extra cold damage from freezes |
Skill Rotation
Boss / single target
- Shred ×4 to build combo
- Cross Slash (gain a Power Charge)
- Rend (gain +50% extra Lightning)
- Pounce in to apply Freezing Mark
- Activate Lunar Blessing
- Lunar Assault until freeze buildup ≥ 70%
- Arctic Howl (open the freeze)
- Savage Fury (ideally activated before the freeze)
- Shred for damage during the freeze
- Cross Slash to detonate Ice Fragments before the freeze ends
- Keep Shredding for 5–10 seconds while freeze diminishing returns decay
- Return to step 4
Mapping
- Lunar Assault as main clear
- Keep generating Rage, keep Lunar Blessing rolling
- Build 4 combo, Cross Slash for the Power Charge
- Rend to maintain the +50% Lightning
- Pounce for mobility and to trigger Blazing Critical / Ice Bite II
- Swap to your second weapon set to activate Savage Fury for longer duration
- When low on life, switch to Shred (zero cost) to accelerate leech recovery
Ascendancy (Oracle), in order
- The Lesser Harm — damage reduction + lower chance to be crit; prerequisite for Forced Outcome
- Forced Outcome — all hits become crits, but with reduced crit damage (you want 20–30% base crit chance to dilute the penalty)
- The Unseen Path — unlocks the Oracle-exclusive passive nodes
- Entwined Realities — allocate passives within a radius around keystones without pathing to them
Passive Tree
Allocation Priority / Key Notables
- Leveling core: Spirit of the Bear, Molten Claw, Tribal Fury (splash)
- Attribute management: pick up STR/DEX/INT nodes along your path to meet gear requirements; excess INT feeds your mana
- Unseen Path area: use Oracle-exclusive nodes to shorten pathing
- Entwined Realities area:
- Blood Magic keystone (skills cost life; grab the adjacent Prism Guard / In Your Face along with it)
- Ancestral Bond (taken purely for access to its surrounding nodes)
- Electrified Claw, Stormcharged
- Hybrid armour/ES: Reinforce Barrier, Iron Slippers
- After equipping : take "damage recouped as life" nodes like Heart Tissue and Glazed Flesh — stack to 100%
- High budget: From Nothing (unique jewel) unlocks Heavy Frost and Abasement near Chaos Inoculation
- Second weapon set: dump all 24 points into "+% skill effect duration" — Rend / Lunar Blessing / Savage Fury last dramatically longer when activated on swap
Stat Priorities
Offense
- Weapon base damage (the entire tree multiplies off it)
- % attack / form / area damage
- % skill / attack speed
- Flat added damage to attacks (physical / lightning / cold / fire)
- % physical + elemental damage (lower priority since your damage types are split)
Defense
- Elemental resistances: cap fire / cold / lightning / chaos at 75%
- % damage recouped as life (mandatory after taking Blood Magic)
- Maximum Life
- Maximum Energy Shield
- Armour + "armour applies to elemental damage" affixes
Gearing Strategy
Campaign
- Replace your weapon every 5–8 levels; gamble early Exalts at the Gold Gambler if needed
- Weapon affix priority: % physical damage > added phys/cold/fire/lightning > % attack speed > +melee skill levels
- Everything else: life + resistances
- Boots: movement speed
- Rings: added elemental damage
Early Mapping
| Slot | Recommendation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Body | Cloak of Flame | Converts physical taken to fire, turning your fire res into physical defense |
| Belt | Goregirdle | Doubles armour effectiveness, caps you at 50% physical reduction |
| Chest alternative | Defiance of Destiny | Recovers life when hit — an early-game survival pill |
| Ring | Sine Aequo | Improves freeze application + damage against frozen targets |
| All slots | — | Cap resistances, fix attributes, stack armour and life |
Endgame Hybrid Armour/ES
Switch once you have Sacrosanctum and 100% damage recouped as life:
- Body: Sacrosanctum (makes your recoup also restore ES)
- Boots: high ES, paired with Iron Slippers to convert ES into armour
- Amulet: % damage recouped as life (desecrated affix) + Pliable Flesh enchant
- Buff item: Blood of the Warrior (extra recoup + prevents Rage decay)
- Extra recoup: Sacrosanctum corruption enchant, desecrated amulet affixes
High Budget
- Headhunter — steal rare mods for a night-and-day mapping experience
- Rite of Passage (amulet/ring) — item rarity + Wolf Spirit variants (30% skill speed / 30% attack damage / 10% armour break / maim)
- Prefer 2-socket gear to maximize jewel slots
- Stack "% increased rarity of items found"
Mana Sustain
After taking the Blood Magic keystone, skills cost life instead. Three recovery sources:
- Life leech
- "% physical damage leeched as life" on rings/gloves (only applies to phys damage)
- Mark of Siphoning II support
- When low, switch to Shred (zero cost); leech is steadier since Lunar Assault skews elemental
- Life on kill
- Cannibalism II / I support gems
- Jewels with "life on kill"
- Medium cost-effectiveness
- Life regeneration
- Vitality II support
- Passives: Life Regeneration & Damage
- Holy Descent support
- Least efficient — prioritize leech / on-kill first
Before Blood Magic: bridge with standard mana cost reduction / mana leech.
Gameplay Tips
- Buff duration strategy: put every "+% skill effect duration" point on your second weapon set; swap to it when activating Rend / Lunar Blessing / Savage Fury, then swap back → durations effectively double
- Weapon set roles: main set gets only damage nodes; swap set gets only duration nodes
- Freeze priority: keep Freezing Mark (Pounce) up for the entire boss fight, or Arctic Howl won't trigger
- Combo economy: Shred to exactly 4 stacks before Cross Slash to keep the rhythm
- Predator's Mark: stack your 7 wolves on trash mobs before entering a boss arena
- Rage generation: fill your Rage bar before activating Lunar Blessing; Rage III speeds this up
- Low-life panic button: switching to Shred (zero cost) is safer than forcing Lunar Assault
- Attribute management (the Oracle pain point): Oracle gets attribute-starved easily — proactively stack +STR/INT/DEX; if new gear or gems create a gap, respec at the Hooded One or Doryani
- Freeze diminishing returns: after a freeze ends, wait 5–10 seconds before re-freezing to avoid the diminishing-returns penalty; fill that window with Shred
Summary
Lunar Assault Werewolf Oracle is a melee build with deep buff management, a clear rhythm, and well-defined burst windows.
- Strengths: multi-buff stacked burst, freeze doubles as crowd control and defense, a clean gear progression path, powerful Oracle-exclusive nodes, extremely tanky endgame with 100% recoup + ES
- Challenges: life management needs care after Blood Magic, Oracle attribute squeeze, buffs must be actively cycled
- Best for: players who enjoy rhythmic melee, don't mind a 4–6 button rotation, and are willing to plan their gear
Lunar Blessing is ready. Time to put on your wolf skin.
