Ice Strike Invoker — Full Guide (0.5.4)

Source: maxroll.gg/poe2/build-guides/tempest-flurry-invoker-leveling-guide Version: Path of Exile 2 — 0.5.4 (Return of the Ancients; page published for 0.5.1, still valid through minor patches) Class: Monk → Invoker | Main skills: Ice Strike Author: Milkybk_ (YouTube / Twitch)

Build Overview

Ice Strike Invoker is the definitive melee cold-damage Monk build on the Invoker ascendancy. The original guide frames it as:

"While melee struggles in the early Acts, higher levels and key Skill Gems quickly solve both single-target and AoE encounters."

In other words: the early campaign is a bit of a slog, but once the key gems and gear come online mid-to-late game, both clear and single-target are excellent. The core loop:

  1. Corral a pack with Shattering Palm;
  2. Detonate with Ice Strike, triggering Herald of Ice for a screen-wide cold explosion;
  3. On bosses, drop Tempest Bell + Charged Staff to convert Power Charges into lightning damage and shockwaves.

In the endgame you pivot into a Chaos Inoculation + massive Energy Shield + Meditate defensive package, reaching 15,000+ effective HP (10,000 ES × 1.5). This is the Invoker's signature move.

Skill Breakdown

Leveling — Act 1

Must-grab quest gems: Killing Palm, Frozen Locus, Glacial Cascade.

Glacial Cascade carries your damage all the way to Count Geonor. Immediately after beating Geonor, switch to Ice Strike as your main skill.

Utility skills:

The core clearing trio:

Supporting cast:

Bossing (single target)

Auras / Buffs / Upkeep

Skill Rotations

Early bosses (Act 1, before Ice Strike)

  1. Keep the Frost Bomb debuff at full uptime.
  2. Frozen Locus to create distance.
  3. Glacial Cascade — land the final segment on the boss.

Mapping rotation (later game)

  1. Shattering Palm to corral the pack;
  2. One wave of Ice Strike attacks detonates it into cold explosions;
  3. Weave in Hand of Chayula to maintain Power / Frenzy Charges.

Boss rotation (Ice Strike system)

  1. Enter with full Power Charges or Charged Staff stacked (a Freezing Tempest Bell also counts as a Combat Frenzy trigger).
  2. Build 4 combo points with Ice Strike.
  3. Place the 1st Tempest Bell directly under the boss.
  4. Build 4 more combo points with Ice Strike.
  5. Place the 2nd Tempest Bell.
  6. Keep attacking with Ice Strike until both Bells run out of hits.
  7. The boss is usually dead by now; if not, repeat the loop.

Ascendancy (Invoker)

Take the nodes in order:

  1. I am the Thunder… — solid lightning damage, helps stack Shock.
  2. …and I Shall Rage — unlocks a cooldown skill for big burst; use on rares / bosses.
  3. Lead me through Grace… — provides Spirit, letting you fit more reservations.
  4. Sunder my Enemies… (4th ascendancy, if you can get it) — you want ≥30% crit chance by this point. Once you own Rakiata's Flow, you can swap this 4th point to Meditate (more defensive).

Endgame switch: after acquiring Rakiata's Flow, replace …and I Shall Rage with Sunder my Enemies… for stable DPS.

Key Unique Roles

Mana Sustain

The endgame mana loop is one sentence: Mana Leech on weapon/gear + Walker of the Wilds (Keystone) = your entire mana sustain.

"Having a source of Mana Leech is essential in the Endgame, combined with Walker of the Wilds it makes up the entirety of your mana sustain."

During the campaign, mana flasks and a bit of regen carry you through.

Playstyle Tips

Act 2 Dreadnought

"Yeah...the last few zones of Act 2 are by far the hardest part of this leveling journey for Invoker Monk."
