Minion Army Spirit Walker — Full Guide (0.5.4)
Source: maxroll.gg/poe2/build-guides/minion-army-spirit-walker-build-guide Version: Path of Exile 2 — 0.5.4 Class: Huntress → Spirit Walker | Main skills: Summon Skeletons (Skeletal Snipers + Skeletal Warriors + Wild Protector + Companions)
Build Overview
This is a Huntress build centered on the Spirit Walker ascendancy and a full minion army. The core loop: your Companions and Skeleton crew kill everything while you only press Buffs, Curses, and Marks.
Maxroll designed the ascendancy route in stages:
- Act 1 — Twister leveling: before your first ascendancy, Twister is your main clear and single-target skill, backed by Whirling Slash and Barrage. This is the relatively "hands-on" phase.
- Act 2, after the first ascendancy — go minions: immediately unlock Wild Protector, and the build completely reskins into a summoner.
- Act 3, second ascendancy — Companion recruitment: unlock The Natural Order, letting you tame Unique Bosses as Companions. Mighty Silverfist is the game-changer here.
- Act 4, third ascendancy — Tyranny's Grip spell weapon: unlock The Catha's Balance, then immediately chase a Runemastered Tyranny's Grip.
The endgame identity is a "laid-back minion commander" — your minions auto-attack everything to death while you press a few buttons (Pain Offering / Sniper's Mark / Despair) to delete screens.
Defensive plan: early Life + Evasion + Energy Shield; switch to Chaos Inoculation (CI) mid-game; defensive layers include Loyalty (companion damage-reduction aura) + Captivating Companionship (5% damage reduction) + Ghost Dance + Convalescence.
Skills Breakdown
Leveling (Act 1 → early Act 2)
Twister — main clear and single-target skill
- Support: Whirling Slash (generates the Empowerment buff; keep it at level 1 forever — leveling it balloons the mana cost)
- Support: Barrage (consumes Frenzy Charges for extra projectiles)
Whirling Slash — the spin attack used to generate Empowerment War Banner — drop before boss fights for single-target damage Parry — defensive counter, pairs with Fangs of Frost Fangs of Frost — an Act 1 all-star that creates freezing ground; replace with Ice-Tipped Arrows from Act 2 Ice-Tipped Arrows — converts Twister to cold; ice shards clean up trash Freezing Mark — improves early freeze rate; Mark tanky mobs and bosses
Mapping (after the Act 2 minion pivot)
Minion lineup
- Pain Offering — sacrifices one Skeleton to buff the rest with damage and speed; CI-stage Support: Brutus' Brain
- Wild Protector — melee Companion, one of your main damage dealers
- Support: Minion Splash I (gives its Maul auto-attacks splash, for clearing)
- For bosses swap to: Rage I
- Skeletal Snipers — ranged crew, higher priority than Warriors
- Support: early Last Gasp (carve with a level 1 Uncut Support Gem)
- Support: swap to Tecrod's Revenge in the CI stage
- Skeletal Warriors — frontline / body-blocking
- Support: Amanamu's Tithe in the CI stage
- Skeletal Reaver — extra damage from Act 3-4
- Skeletal Cleric — late-game support minion
- Mighty Silverfist / Zekoa, the Headcrusher — tamed Unique Boss Companions, your primary damage source
- Wolf Pack / Haste Aura Companion — secondary Companion providing a Haste aura
Curses / Marks / Buffs
- Withering Presence — early minion support; Support: Upwelling I (more minion damage)
- Sniper's Mark — replaces Freezing Mark; armour-break debuff
- Support: Mark for Death (amplifies the debuff)
- Support: add Charged Mark after CI (applies Shock)
- Despair — increases chaos damage taken; a massive multiplier alongside Evergrasping Ring and Uul-Netol's Embrace
- Ghost Dance — replaces Withering Presence from early mapping; evasion-based recovery
- Convalescence — added in the CI stage for Energy Shield recovery
Bossing
- Walk in, drop War Banner
- Cast Pain Offering on a Skeleton (damage + speed buff)
- Apply Sniper's Mark + Mark for Death (+ Charged Mark after CI)
- Stack Despair (a huge multiplier with Evergrasping Ring)
- Let your Companions and Wild Protector do the work
- Min-max: generate Rage with Blood of the Warrior, then Blood of Rage + Warlord Berserker to share Rage with your minions
Auras / Buffs
The guide doesn't specify explicit auras (minion builds mostly rely on Companion inherent affixes):
- Companion affix: Haste Aura (note: NOT "Hasted"!)
- High-end Zekoa: Extra Physical Damage Aura
- Secondary Companion adds Loyalty (defensive aura)
Skill Rotation
Standard clear loop:
- Walk into the pack
- Cast Pain Offering on a Skeletal Warrior / Sniper (damage + speed)
- Stack Sniper's Mark / Freezing Mark + Mark for Death on the pack
- Despair (post-CI + Evergrasping Rings = major damage boost)
- Let your Companions and Wild Protector auto-attack
- Move to the next pack
Boss loop:
- War Banner → Pain Offering → Sniper's Mark (+ Mark for Death + Charged Mark) → Despair → wait for the crew to deliver
- Min-max: add Blood of the Warrior for Rage upkeep
Ascendancy (Spirit Walker)
Take the nodes in this order:
- First ascendancy (Act 2): unlocks the Wild Protector skill gem — the pivot into minions
- Second ascendancy (Act 3): unlocks The Natural Order — lets you tame Unique Boss Companions
- Head straight to Act 3 Jungle Ruins and recruit Mighty Silverfist
- Third ascendancy (Act 4): unlocks The Catha's Balance — enables the Runemastered Tyranny's Grip
- Immediately Runemaster it twice at Dannig's workbench in Kingsmarch using Verisium Ore
Ascendancy passive strategy:
- Idolatry: do not take in early mapping (unless you can cover the -4% elemental res); pick it up later once your resistances allow

Key Uniques:
- Enfolding Dawn — the transitional Unique for the minion pivot
- Soul Mantle — a better defensive option from Lv 36+
- Tyranny's Grip (Runemastered) — mandatory after the third ascendancy
- Uul-Netol's Embrace — give to Mighty Silverfist late game; move to the Wolf Pack when min-maxing
- Mageblood — the Legacy belt option, paired with Quicksilver/Gold/Bismuth flasks
- From Nothing — Unique jewel enabling the Blackflame Covenant Keystone
Jewel (Sapphire / Ruby / Emerald) priority:
- Minion crit damage
- +# Max ES
- Minion elemental resistances (+16% total, or two +8%)
- Presence radius
- Minion crit chance (skip if your Companion has Extra Crits)
- Minion attack / cast speed
- Companion damage
- Minion damage
Mana Sustain
The guide doesn't give a dedicated plan. Key points:
- Twister phase: keep Whirling Slash at level 1 forever (the key mana saver)
- After the minion pivot, your casts are sparse (Pain Offering / Sniper's Mark / Despair / Convalescence) — passive mana regen is enough
- Never use a mana flask with "Removes 15% of Mana Recovered from Life when used"
Gameplay Tips
Leveling:
- Act 1 weapon priority: attack speed > flat damage > +Projectile levels
- Spend your first Exalted / Chaos Orbs on Enfolding Dawn and +Minion skill levels helmets/sceptres/amulets
- Check vendors for new sceptres every few levels (especially the dedicated sceptre NPC)
Minion management:
- Spirit budget example (Act 2): 0-3 Warriors / 2-5 Snipers / Wild Protector
- Spirit budget example (Act 3-4): 0-2 Warriors / 1-4 Snipers / Wild Protector / Silverfist / Wolf Pack / 0-1 Reaver
- Snipers are your main damage; Warriors mostly hold the line
Companion recruitment:
- Mighty Silverfist: Act 3 Jungle Ruins, via the Tame Beast skill; requires Easy Going + Trusted Kinship
- Zekoa, the Headcrusher: Rupture / Riverside maps.
- Use 1 Cruel Hegemony + 2 different rare tablets (with "Unique Monsters have 1 additional Rare Modifier") to guarantee three affixes
- Doryani / Jado areas can roll 4 affixes
- Desired affix priority: 1) Extra Crits 2) Extra Phys Aura 3) Enraged 4) Hasted 5) Extra Fire/Cold/Light/Chaos 6) Soul Eater
- Haste Aura secondary Companion: Infested Barrens "Troubled Camp". Disable all your minions, use Respawn at checkpoint to re-roll repeatedly; the target affix is "Haste Aura" (not "Hasted"!)
Defense:
- Elemental res 75%, chaos res +60%
- Beastial Skin + Spectral Ward require an Evasion or ES+Eva chest
- CI switch: around Lv 92 with 4-5k ES
- After CI, never use "Damage taken bypasses Energy Shield" (e.g. Heavy Buffer)
- After CI, never use a mana flask with "Removes 15% of Mana Recovered from Life when used"
Gem carving:
- Carve Lightning Attunement and Last Gasp with level 1 Uncut Supports early (avoids the level 2 requirement)
- Pre-carve Brutality II and Minion Splash I before your first ascendancy, ready for Wild Protector
Attribute management:
- With surplus attributes, level gems to Lv 18 to reduce their requirements
- Targets: Int 137-157, Dex 157
Summary
Minion Army Spirit Walker is the Huntress's defining "active leveling / AFK endgame" build. Twister carries Act 1, then you pivot hard into minions after the first ascendancy; the second ascendancy's Mighty Silverfist is the first transformation, and the third ascendancy's Tyranny's Grip is the second. The endgame experience is minions auto-attacking maps to death while you only press Pain Offering / Mark / Despair.
Defensive progression runs Life+Eva → ES+Eva → CI (switch at Lv 92 with 4-5k ES). Core damage scaling comes from stacking +1 Minion levels plus the Evergrasping Ring × Despair × Uul-Netol's Embrace combo. The endgame belt chase is "Minion strikes have melee splash" or Mageblood for the true idle-clear experience.
