Build Overview

Acolyte of Chayula Ice Strike Monk drives a unique defensive layer — Darkness — off quarterstaff cold strikes. Embrace the Darkness removes all Spirit and replaces it with a Darkness buffer that soaks damage that would otherwise cut Energy Shield; Chayula's Gift raises the chaos-resistance cap to 85%, and Deepening Shadows converts that chaos resistance into a larger maximum Darkness pool. On offence, Ice Strike freezes rapidly while Herald Of Ice shatters frozen packs across the screen.

Gameplay Loop

  1. Shattering Palm herds and marks a pack;
  2. Ice Strike freezes and detonates, with Herald Of Ice shattering across the screen;
  3. On bosses drop Tempest Bell, then Charged Staff to convert Power Charges into extra lightning shockwaves;
  4. Keep Hand Of Chayula + Combat Frenzy rolling to stack charges and frenzy;
  5. Tankiness rides on the Darkness buffer, backed by Wind Dancer / Ghost Dance evasion layers.

Leveling

Level with Glacial Cascade until you beat Count Geonor, grabbing the quest gems Killing Palm and Frozen Locus. Switch to Ice Strike with Cold Infusion as soon as it is available. Take Embrace the Darkness first to open the Darkness layer, then stack chaos resistance to feed Deepening Shadows. Run life plus Energy Shield as your early hybrid pool.

Gear

Use a fast Sinister Quarterstaff with added cold and crit; armour stacks evasion/energy-shield hybrid + life. The Acolyte prizes chaos resistanceAmethyst Ring and Jade Amulet both provide it, hitting the 85% cap and converting into Darkness. Helm, body and boots stack Energy Shield and triple resistances; a Sapphire Charm covers freeze.

Passives

Ascendancy order: Embrace the Darkness → Chayula's Gift → Deepening Shadows → Inner Turmoil. On the tree, prioritise quarterstaff/melee cold damage, attack speed, crit and freeze buildup, then life, Energy Shield and chaos resistance. Later pick up Unravelling / Waking Dream to boost ailments and Breach buffs.

FAQ

Q: What if the Darkness pool is emptied?

Once depleted, Darkness stays reserved for 5 seconds before refilling; you cover that window with life/ES and positioning, so keep a baseline life pool.

Q: Why stack chaos resistance so hard?

Chayula's Gift raises the chaos-res cap to 85%, and Deepening Shadows turns each 1% chaos res into more maximum Darkness — so it is both defence and your "resource".

Q: Is single-target enough?

Tempest Bell plus Charged Staff spending Power Charges gives solid single target; stack charges then detonate the bell for burst.
