Ice Shot Deadeye — Full Guide (0.5.4)
Source: maxroll.gg/poe2/build-guides/ice-shot-deadeye-build-guide Version: Path of Exile 2 — Return of the Ancients (0.5.4) Class: Ranger → Deadeye | Main skills: Ice Shot
Build Overview
Ice Shot Deadeye is a cold projectile Ranger build built around volume of icy arrows for Freeze crowd control and shatter burst. Pair that with Snipe for single-target execution on frozen targets and you can one-shot most world bosses.
- Main clear: Ice Shot (9 ice shard projectiles burst out on hit)
- Main single-target: Snipe (fire it while the enemy is frozen — timing matters)
- Defensive core: Deflect (a mitigation layer that scales with Evasion Rating)
- Control core: Freeze — Frozen enemies cannot move, attack or cast spells (one of the strongest defenses in the game)
No uniques are required to play, but Hyrri's Ire doubling your Evasion is a massive power jump.
Skill Breakdown
Leveling
- Frost Bomb — online from the start; damage plus Exposure
- Escape Shot — freeze + backwards leap, your mobility core
- Lightning Arrow — finishes off packs
- Bow Shot — zero-mana fallback
- Stormcaller Arrow — main single-target until you get Snipe
- Freezing Salvo — slots in at level 14; huge freeze efficiency, mandatory for bosses
Mapping
- Ice Shot (main) — comes online at level 31, your core clear
- Barrage — use on cooldown for a big clear-speed boost
- Ice-Tipped Arrows — use on cooldown; burst for both clearing and bossing
- Tornado Shot — drop tornadoes at terrain/corners; projectiles re-fire from the tornado
Bossing (single target)
- Freezing Salvo → freeze the boss
- Snipe → crit on the frozen target, your core burst
- Barrage → weave in on cooldown for more DPS
Auras / Buffs
- Herald of Ice — cold chain explosions
- Wind Dancer — Evasion boost + knockback/pin/blind
- Combat Frenzy — automatic Frenzy Charge generation
- Rhoa Mount (endgame) — map traversal speed
Skill Rotations
Single target (bosses):
- Pre-place Tornado Shot before the fight starts (position your tornadoes)
- Keep firing Ice Shot — hitting a tornado = projectile multiplication
- Once the boss freezes: Barrage → Snipe (one-shots trash / removes a huge chunk of boss HP)
Mapping:
- Ice Shot as your main button; press Barrage and Ice-Tipped Arrows whenever they're up
- Slam Tornado Shot on elites / dense packs
Ascendancy (Deadeye)
Take the nodes in order:
- Gathering Winds — stacking buff for movement/attack speed + Evasion
- Called Shots — automatically Marks enemies, providing damage, freeze, and Frenzy Charges
- Bullseye — big crit chance bonus against Marked targets
- Point Blank — massive projectile damage at close range
The Deadeye gameplan: movement + projectile multiplication + Mark-based damage. Gathering Winds is your mobility engine; Called Shots → Bullseye → Point Blank is the single-target damage chain.
Passive Tree
Pathing Priorities
- Fill Int/Dex to meet gear + gem requirements first, then dump the rest into Str (for Life)
- Mana problems? Use a Sapphire Jewel with the 2% mana on Kill affix
- Beastial Skin (doubles Body Armour Evasion) — wait until your body armour's Evasion is worth doubling
- Take generic damage nodes until ~level 75, then pivot into Critical Strike nodes
- With the Slivertongue unique bow you can pivot into crit nodes earlier
Key Notables
- Beastial Skin — Body Armour Evasion ×2
- Point Blank — big close-range projectile damage (the ascendancy has the same-named node)
- Stormcharged (recommended Anoint) — significant damage boost
- Critical Exploit (early Anoint alternative) — early crit damage
- Walker of the Wilds — synergizes with the Time-Lost Emerald jewel
Stat Priorities
Offense
- Increased Attack/Elemental Damage with Attacks
- Increased Attack Speed
- Increased Critical Hit Chance & Critical Damage Bonus
- + to Projectile Skill Levels (arrow levels are the core stat)
- Flat damage rolls (rings / quiver / gloves)
- Bow: Physical/Cold Damage tiers (the higher the phys/cold rolls, the sillier the DPS)
Defense
- Fire/Cold/Lightning Resistance — all capped at 75%
- to Maximum Life
- Evasion Rating (the prerequisite for the Deflect mechanic)
- Deflect Rating (mitigation that scales with Evasion)
- Movement Speed (the most important boot affix)
Gearing Strategy
Campaign
- Stack Life + resistances on every slot
- Rings / quiver / gloves: flat damage
- Bow: replace every 5–10 levels, prioritizing Physical/Cold Damage
- Stuck on attributes? Patch with Runes temporarily — gear affixes are the long-term fix
Early Mapping
- Cap all three resistances at 75%, sort out attributes
- Stack Evasion on Body Armour / Helmet / Gloves / Boots
- Movement Speed first on boots
- A quiver upgrade = a massive DPS leap
- Hyrri's Ire is the recommended endgame body armour
Aspirational Endgame Gear
| Slot | Recommendation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bow (main) | Physical DPS bow + additional arrows | Use Rakiata's Flow against cold-resistant bosses |
| Quiver (main) | Cadiro's Gambit | Clearing powerhouse (extra arrows) |
| Quiver (swap) | Rare (flat dmg + crit) | Pairs with Snipe for single target |
| Body Armour | Hyrri's Ire | Double Evasion while not recently hit |
| Belt | Headhunter | All-around mapping power |
| Accessory | Garukhan's Resolve | Feeds Snipe enormous damage |
Two-Weapon Set Configuration
- Main set: Ice Shot + high-arrow-count Bow + Cadiro's Gambit (clearing)
- Swap set: Snipe + high flat damage / crit Bow + rare Quiver (single target)
Jewels
Time-Lost Emerald (Unique Jewel) recommended affixes:
- % increased effect of Notable Passive Skills in Radius
- % increased Attack Damage
- % increased Critical Damage Bonus
- % increased Projectile Damage
- % increased Evasion Rating
- Chance for projectiles to chain when hitting terrain
Sapphire Jewel recommended affixes:
- Damage Penetrates (5–10)% Cold Resistance
- % increased Critical Hit Chance
- % increased Cold Damage
- Recover (1–2)% max Life/Mana on Kill
Mana Sustain
- Mapping: a Sapphire Jewel with 2% mana on Kill solves it outright
- Fallback: Bow Shot costs zero mana — bridge with it when starved
- Boss fights: rarely an issue (invest in + to Maximum Mana / Mana Regen)
Playstyle Tips
- Ice Shot's 9 shard projectiles need to hit terrain/walls to fully spawn — deliberately shoot into walls
- Time your Snipe off the glow cue on your character; practice outside of combat
- Defensive Escape Shot: fire it point-blank to leap backwards while freezing your pursuers
- While mapping, treat Barrage as an attack-speed buff generator — press it on cooldown
- Freeze is the strongest defense in the game (frozen targets can't move / attack / cast)
Summary
- Volume of cold projectiles → constant freezes = airtight crowd control
- Snipe + Barrage = one-shot potential on bosses
- Evasion + Deflect = comfortable endgame mapping
- The key uniques are Hyrri's Ire (defensive breakpoint) and Cadiro's Gambit (clearing breakpoint)
